Shelter Cats
Photography and text by Michael Kloth
I photographed the cats in this book during my volunteer work with animal shelters. I wanted you to see each of them as an individual, with their own expressions and ways of responding to the camera.

“These are the most beautiful portraits of kitties I’ve ever seen anywhere.”
The cats I met in shelters
Shelter Cats brings together more than 80 portraits of cats and kittens awaiting adoption. I photographed cats of different ages and temperaments, sharing their photographs and stories to draw attention to animals looking for homes.
This shelter photography formed the foundation of my MFA thesis at Academy of Art University. I continue to photograph adoptable animals in Tucson, including my volunteer work with Pima Animal Care Center and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

Photographing your cat
I bring professional studio lighting to your home and plan the session around your cat. We'll talk about their temperament and the space during your pre-session consultation, with time for them to settle in once I arrive.
Shelter Puppies
Meet the puppies I photographed while volunteering with animal shelters.
