Fine Art Prints | Sonoran Desert Landscape Photography
Museum-Quality Landscape Photography of Southern Arizona
The Sonoran Desert speaks in light and shadow, ancient forms and endless sky. For nearly 20 years, I've been photographing this landscapeβnot as a visitor, but as someone who's come to understand its rhythms, its light, its quiet power.
These aren't snapshots or generic desert scenes. Each image represents hours of scouting, waiting for the right light, returning to locations across seasons until the conditions align. The result is fine art photography that captures what makes Southern Arizona's landscape unlike anywhere else.
All prints are museum-quality archival piecesβthe same standards used in my work for the TMC Foundation's permanent Healing Arts Collection. These aren't drugstore prints that fade in a few years. Using pigment inks on premium fine art paper, each piece is guaranteed lightfast for 100+ years and hand-inspected before it leaves my studio.
Collections
The Saguaro Series
The ancient saguaros of the Sonoran Desert stand as monuments to resilienceβsome specimens reaching 200 years old, surviving everything the desert can offer. This series captures these iconic forms across different light, seasons, and perspectives.
From the dramatic backlit silhouettes at sunset to the subtle morning light revealing their texture and form, each image explores what makes saguaros both familiar symbols and endlessly fascinating subjects.
Sonoran Landscapes
Beyond the iconic cacti, the Sonoran Desert offers infinite variationβvolcanic rock formations, sweeping bajadas, the meeting of mountains and sky. This collection captures the broader landscape: the spaces between things, the play of light across distance, the geometry of desert mountains.
These are the views that stop you on a drive, the landscapes that explain why people fall in love with Southern Arizona. Images that work equally well in contemporary homes, traditional Southwest aesthetics, or anywhere that values authentic regional character.
Alternative Processes
Some images deserve a different treatment than standard photographic printing. This collection explores cyanotypes and other historic photographic processesβtechniques dating back to photography's earliest days, reimagined with contemporary subjects.
The deep blue tones of cyanotype printing create ethereal, almost painterly renditions of desert forms. Each print in this series is truly unique, with subtle variations inherent to the hand-crafted process. These pieces appeal to collectors interested in both fine art photography and photographic history.

MFA Thesis: Shelter Animals
The body of work that defined my graduate studies at Academy of Art Universityβdocumentary portraits of adoptable shelter animals photographed across three states. These original exhibition prints from my 2008 thesis showcase are museum-matted, signed, and ready for framing.
Unlike my landscape work which is made-to-order, these are the actual exhibition pieces. Once sold, they cannot be replicated. Each represents a unique opportunity to own academically-validated fine art photography with historic provenance and deep connection to animal welfare advocacy.
This work has informed nearly two decades of continued volunteer photography at Pima Animal Care Center and Humane Society of Southern Arizona.

Why Museum Quality Matters
Archival Materials
Not all "art prints" are created equal. These prints use pigment inks on museum-quality fine art paper, guaranteed lightfast for 100+ years. Compare this to standard prints from online services, which typically fade within 5-10 years.
The difference isn't just longevityβit's image quality. Archival printing produces richer blacks, more nuanced tonal ranges, and colors that accurately represent what I saw when creating the image.
Made to Order
Every print is created specifically for you after you order. This isn't inventory sitting in a warehouse. It's individual attention to each pieceβhand-inspected for color accuracy, tonal range, and print quality before it's signed and shipped.
This made-to-order approach means you're getting museum-quality standards applied to your specific print, not mass-production quality control.
Signed by the Artist
Each print includes my signature and the date of printing. For limited edition work, prints are numbered to document the edition size. All prints include a certificate of authenticity documenting the image, printing specifications, and archival materials used.
Professional Training
These aren't hobby photography prints. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Academy of Art Universityβformal academic training in the art and science of light, composition, and photographic vision. I'm a Certified Professional Photographer through Professional Photographers of America, with nearly 20 years of professional experience.
This combination of artistic vision and technical mastery shows in the final work.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do the prints last?
Using archival pigment inks on museum-quality paper, prints are guaranteed lightfast for 100+ years when properly displayed and cared for. This compares to 5-10 years for standard prints from consumer printing services.
Do prints come framed?
No, prints ship unframed to allow you to choose framing that matches your dΓ©cor and preferences. I can recommend professional framers in Tucson who specialize in fine art, or you can work with your preferred framer. I strongly recommend UV-protective glazing for long-term preservation.
Can I see the prints in person before ordering?
While I don't maintain a public gallery space, I'm happy to schedule private viewings by appointment for local Tucson collectors considering larger purchases. Contact me to arrange a time.
What if I need a different size?
Custom sizing is available for most images. Contact me with your specific dimensions and I'll provide a quote. Note that extreme size changes may not work well with every image's composition.
Do you offer canvas prints?
Yes, I used a professional print lab to create gallery wrapped canvas prints.
Can I return a print if I don't like it?
Because prints are made-to-order specifically for you, returns aren't accepted. However, I stand behind the quality of every print. If there's a quality issue (damage, printing defect, color accuracy problem), contact me immediately and I'll make it right.
What about shipping?
Prints ship flat (not rolled) with protective backing and waterproof outer wrapping. Shipping costs vary by size and destination. Local Tucson pickup is available by appointment, which eliminates shipping costs.
Are these limited editions?
Most landscape work is open edition (not limited to specific numbers). The MFA Thesis: Shelter Animals collection includes limited edition prints with documented edition sizes. Limited editions are clearly marked and include edition numbers.
About the Photographer
I'm Michael Kloth, and I've been photographing the American Southwest for nearly 20 years. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Academy of Art University and earned Certified Professional Photographer designation through Professional Photographers of America.
My fine art work appears in the TMC Foundation's permanent Healing Arts Collection at Tucson Medical Center. I've published three books on animal welfare and continue to volunteer as the primary photographer at Pima Animal Care Center and Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
Beyond fine art, I create professional pet portraits and headshots for Tucson's business community. But the landscape work is where I return to explore purely artistic questionsβhow light defines form, how the desert reveals itself differently across seasons and hours, what makes a place feel like home.
Every print represents not just technical execution, but genuine connection to this place and commitment to creating work that lasts.
